Pukerau School is a two teacher school in the middle of a farming area, just off State Highway 1, only a 15 minute drive north of Gore. Mrs Colleen Watt is our Principal and senior class teacher. Mrs Leah Wilson is the senior class teacher on Thursday and Friday. Our junior class has two teachers, Mrs Annette Barron (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Angie Petterson (Thursday-Friday).

2009 UPDATE

At the start of the year we got a new SCITECH Interactive Whiteboard in the senior room which is fantastic! Now Mrs Watt has an Interactive Teaching Station coming for the junior class, which is very exciting! The IWB is a great teaching and learning tool which has numerous possibilites.

We have 3 students who have been going to the GRITS Student Workshops at Tapanui School - they have been very enthusiastic about this and are enjoying sharing with the rest of the school what they have been learning about. So far they have learnt how to create a powerpoint presentation, how to use Photostory and about creating their own wikispace.
We have created a wikispace for the senior class - which currently has links to websites they can use as learning tools during class time or at home. We hope to soon have students work on this site too. Take a look at
www.pukerauseniors.wikispaces.com
.
Our staff focus for GRITS this year is the Action Research Project - we chose to look at raising our basic facts achievement levels. So far we are pleased with our progress in completing our ARP.
TERM TWO

Our inquiry topic this term is EXTREMES - How do people and animals survive in ANTARCTICA? Below is some of the art work the senior students are in the process of creating. They had to research the types of penguins that live in Antarctica - finding out the population, size, weight and diet. They also looked at predators of penguins amongst other areas of Antarctica life.
We also have a third year student teacher in the senior room this term, Mrs Julie de Villiers will be with us for eight weeks. Mrs D has been doing some fantastic work with the senior class, which you can see in the pictures below.
